BitTorrent completed its inaugural token buyback-and-burn cycle on October 16, incinerating 21,621,611,570,729.6 BTT tokens valued at approximately $7.6 million. The burn marks the first execution of a long-term deflationary strategy announced July 6, under which BitTorrent commits 100% of its decentralized service revenue to quarterly BTT repurchases and burns.

The burned tokens were sent to a black-hole address via transaction hash 4d9596617780e329bbd4e644ee0dffd780ec4cf3749f324d03eb98157eb04ae5. BitTorrent has published burn figures on a dedicated dashboard accessible from its official website, with subsequent quarterly burn data scheduled for publication around the middle of the first month of each quarter.

Architectural Overhaul and Economic Model

BitTorrent’s burn strategy operates within a newly articulated three-layer architecture detailed in an updated whitepaper. The protocol now comprises BitTorrent Mainnet for peer-to-peer content distribution, BTTInferGrid as a decentralized compute layer, and BTTC for cross-chain interoperability and Layer 2 scaling. BTT serves as the unified economic engine across all three components.

The buyback-and-burn mechanism reflects BitTorrent’s pivot toward Web3 and AI infrastructure use cases. By converting all decentralized business revenue into token destruction, the protocol reduces BTT supply on a quarterly basis, creating upward pressure on the remaining token stock. This approach mirrors similar mechanisms deployed for JST and SUN tokens within the TRON ecosystem, of which BitTorrent is a constituent protocol.

Token Performance and Quarterly Cadence

BTT gained 30.3% in value over the three months preceding October 15, the day before the inaugural burn cycle completed. The protocol did not disclose the exact amount of Q3 2026 decentralized service revenue that funded the October burn, though the $7.6 million burn value provides a floor estimate of quarterly revenue generation.

Future burn cycles will follow a quarterly schedule, with results published mid-month in January, April, July, and October. BitTorrent Team Singapore serves as the listed organization contact for the protocol.
