Wealth Manager Expands Digital Asset Lineup Months After Bitcoin Fund Debut

Morgan Stanley is launching two exchange-traded products tracking ether and solana that will trade on NYSE Arca under the tickers MSSE and MSOL, using CoinDesk benchmark indexes to price the funds.

The move follows the earlier 2026 debut of Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust (MSBT), which had accumulated $381 million in assets under management through July 16. Both new funds charge a 0.14% expense ratio, described as the lowest on the market.

Amy Oldenburg, head of digital asset strategy at Morgan Stanley, said: “Digital assets are becoming an increasingly important component of diversified investment portfolios. As client interest in digital assets continues to grow, we’re focused on providing a range of digital asset solutions that allow investors to diversify their portfolios across traditional and decentralized asset classes while also adhering to Morgan Stanley’s standards for governance, infrastructure and risk management.”

The ether and solana products will track the CoinDesk Ether Benchmark 4PM NY Settlement Rate and CoinDesk Solana Benchmark 4PM NY Settlement Rate respectively. Staking rewards from ether or SOL holdings will be passed through to investors rather than retained by Morgan Stanley.

Morgan Stanley’s wealth management division oversees $9 trillion in client assets through 16,000 financial advisors. The firm also owns E*TRADE, providing direct access to millions of self-directed investors.

The expansion reflects broader competition among large asset managers to capture investor demand for digital asset exposure. Since the debut of spot bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, major firms have broadened their crypto offerings. Ether products are now well established in the market, while solana is emerging as the next area of competition among asset managers. BlackRock recently launched its first crypto income ETF as clients seek steady income from long-term bitcoin investments.

The solana ETP market currently includes 8 listed funds with combined net assets of $889.3 million, according to SoSoValue data.
