IBM announced beta connectivity to Swift’s blockchain ledger on September 24, enabling 24/7 tokenized deposit transactions through its Digital Asset Haven platform. The additions include a messaging adapter for ISO 20022 financial messaging and a beta on-premises deployment option for banks running the platform in their own data centers.

The messaging adapter allows financial institutions to instruct tokenized deposit transactions using ISO 20022, the global standard for financial messaging. Banks can leverage existing payment formats and compliance processes instead of building blockchain-specific workflows, according to IBM’s announcement.

Tom McPherson, general manager of IBM Z and LinuxONE, said in a statement: “The financial services industry is entering a new era where tokenized and traditional assets will need to move side by side.” The on-premises option runs on IBM Z and LinuxONE infrastructure without relying on public cloud services, giving regulated institutions control over data residency.

Swift Ledger Momentum

Swift launched its blockchain ledger in July 2026 with 17 banks in the initial pilot group. The ledger was developed with input from 40 financial institutions. In August, HSBC and Standard Chartered completed the first live cross-border transaction on the ledger, demonstrating the infrastructure’s readiness for production use.

Digital Asset Haven is IBM’s platform designed for banks and other regulated institutions to manage and secure digital assets. The new beta additions extend the platform’s interoperability with Swift’s tokenized deposit infrastructure, allowing institutions to integrate blockchain-based transactions into their existing operational frameworks.

IBM did not specify when the beta period would end or provide a timeline for production transition. The company also did not name which financial institutions are currently testing the new connectivity features.
