Bitcoin is trading near $78,000 as traders await three major macro catalysts that could test the asset’s current equilibrium: US inflation data on September 11, the Federal Reserve’s decision on September 15-16, and the Bank of Japan’s meeting on September 17-18.

The price level sits above Glassnode’s $76,600 True Market Mean but remains below a dense overhead band where multiple cost bases converge. According to Glassnode’s September 9 report, the $83,000-$86,000 range contains long-term-holder cost basis, modeled short-liquidation exposure, and US spot ETF break-even levels. Over 1 million BTC was acquired in that band, creating structural resistance.

Corporate treasuries break even around $80,500. Deeper support lies at Glassnode’s $62,000-$65,000 accumulation floor, with modeled long-liquidation exposure clustered around $60,000-$63,000.

Liquidation Dynamics Shift

The modeled short-liquidation shelf from $82,000-$86,000 grew 21% after August 19, according to Glassnode. The firm’s seven-day Sell-Side Risk Ratio fell from 16 basis points in August to 7 basis points currently, signaling reduced near-term selling pressure from large holders.

Long-term holders’ share of realized profit has compressed to 47% from 88% in an earlier period, indicating a structural shift in who is distributing coins and at what pace.

Central Bank Expectations

CME FedWatch shows a 60.4% probability of a September Fed rate hike following the August jobs report, up from 57% one week earlier. A Reuters poll of 65 of 93 economists conducted September 4-9 expects the Fed to hold its current 3.50%-3.75% target range.

The Bank of Japan consensus targets a 1.25% rate increase, though the central bank could move 25 basis points or pursue a larger 50 basis point adjustment. The US 10-year Treasury yield stood at 4.80% on September 8.

Macro Wildcards

Oil markets added volatility on September 9, with Brent crude reaching intraday highs above $100 per barrel. Recent Strait of Hormuz flows stand at 2 million barrels a day. The Bureau of Labor Statistics will publish August inflation data at 8:30 a.m. ET on September 11, with July headline CPI at 3.4% year-over-year and core inflation at 2.5%.

Bitcoin’s market cap stands at $1.57 trillion with a 24-hour volume of $28.44 billion. The asset is down 1.34% over the past 24 hours but up 0.61% over seven days and 21.49% over 30 days.
