ZetaChain governance voters overwhelmingly approved retiring the project’s standalone Layer 1 blockchain and migrating the native ZETA token to Solana as an SPL token, with 99.44% of ballots supporting the plan.
Proposal 68 voting closed on September 20, with 263.65 million ZETA cast in favor, 744,658 against, and 752,300 abstentions. The approval marks a strategic pivot away from ZetaChain’s original mission as a cross-chain connector toward concentrated development on Anuma, a private multi-model AI application.
ZetaChain cited the operational burden of maintaining a Cosmos SDK-based network requiring coordination of security advisories and patches across dozens of independent validators. The project argues Solana offers the transaction speed, low fees, and liquidity needed for AI applications. Solana processes transactions in approximately 400 milliseconds and hosts $15 billion in stablecoins and $70 billion in monthly decentralized-exchange volume.
Anuma’s Early Traction
Anuma has attracted 300,000 users since February and processed 1 million requests across 35 AI models. The application already allows users to lock ZETA in exchange for credits for AI usage, establishing a direct utility pathway for the token on Solana.
According to Proposal 68, “every contributor hour” would shift toward ZETA, Anuma, and development on Solana following the migration. ZetaChain did not specify an exact migration date or timeline for the transition.
Token Conversion Details
Native ZETA balances moving from ZetaChain will convert from 18 decimal places to Solana’s 9-decimal standard and be rounded down. ZETA held on Ethereum and BNB Chain remains outside Proposal 68 and is not affected by the migration. Existing vesting schedules will remain unchanged.
ZetaChain did not specify how fractional token remainders from the decimal conversion will be distributed or handled.
Background
ZetaChain was founded in 2021 to connect separate blockchains. The project built a Cosmos SDK-based layer-1 designed to let applications interact with assets and contracts across Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. The pivot to Anuma represents a departure from that cross-chain focus in favor of AI infrastructure development.
