XRP and XRPL-native assets can now move into EVM and Cosmos-linked DeFi applications through Axelar’s interoperability infrastructure.
The XRP Ledger has integrated with Axelar, a cross-chain interoperability protocol, enabling XRP and assets native to XRPL to access decentralized finance applications beyond their home ecosystem. The connection routes liquidity through Axelar’s bridge infrastructure into Ethereum-compatible networks and Cosmos-linked blockchains.
XRP has historically ranked among the most liquid crypto assets but has traded predominantly on centralized exchanges rather than within decentralized protocols. XRPL’s DeFi ecosystem developed along a different path than Ethereum-style smart contract networks, limiting XRP’s direct utility in on-chain finance venues. The Axelar integration addresses that constraint by creating a passage for XRP liquidity into external applications and trading venues.
The integration does not convert XRPL into an EVM-compatible chain or enable native Ethereum smart contracts to execute on XRPL. Instead, it functions as a connectivity layer, allowing users to move XRP across chain boundaries without being confined to a single network.
Axelar’s Role in Multi-Chain Infrastructure
Axelar positions itself as infrastructure designed to solve multi-chain interoperability without relying on fragile bridge structures. Cross-chain connectivity has become a focal point in crypto as user expectations shift toward assets being usable across multiple chains without liquidity fragmentation.
The connection enables XRP holders and XRPL application developers to participate in DeFi opportunities on Ethereum and Cosmos ecosystems, potentially broadening the utility of XRP beyond its traditional settlement and payment-focused use cases.
