XRP fell about 5% over the past week to around $1.03, even as bitcoin, ether, and solana climbed 1% to 4% and the broader crypto market added 1.4% in value, according to data tracked by CoinDesk.

The price decline occurred amid continued net inflows into XRP-focused exchange-traded funds for a fourth consecutive week. However, inflows weakened substantially, dropping 93% week-over-week to $1 million in the latest period, compared with hundreds of millions flowing into bitcoin and ether ETFs during the same timeframe.

The total crypto market capitalization stood at $2.19 trillion at the time of reporting.

Market Positioning and Sentiment

Iliya Kalchev, an analyst at Nexo, characterized XRP’s technical setup as resilient despite the price underperformance. “XRP’s positioning looks patient in its own right, with order flow staying large even as volume metrics turn neutral, quiet absorption rather than capitulation or a confirmed breakout,” Kalchev said.

Jake Claver, chairman of Digital Ascension Group and a qualified family office professional, expressed a longer-term bullish view on XRP’s role in global finance. “XRP is looking more and more like it will claim its spot as a global bridge asset and possibly be recognized by the BIS as tier-one asset in the future,” Claver said.

Regulatory Backdrop

XRP is a payments-focused cryptocurrency. The Senate has delayed consideration of the CLARITY Act, legislation widely viewed as key to clarifying XRP’s regulatory status and potentially unlocking broader institutional participation. A Senate vote on the measure is expected at the earliest in mid-September.

The Bank for International Settlements maintains a tier-one asset classification for the most liquid and stable assets that banks can hold. Claver’s reference to potential BIS recognition reflects the significance such a designation would carry for XRP’s institutional adoption.

The divergence between XRP’s price action and ETF inflows underscores the complexity of retail and institutional positioning in the asset during a period of regulatory uncertainty.
