Vida Global, a NYSE American-listed AI operating system company based in Austin, Texas, has begun paying employees in Bitcoin using Voltage’s Lightning Network infrastructure, according to an announcement on Thursday. The company settles the transaction value in U.S. dollars on its balance sheet.
The program addresses a specific need among Vida’s global workforce. “Vida has a global team, including team members in Argentina who prefer to be paid in Bitcoin because of challenges with their local currency,” said Lyle Pratt, CEO of Vida Global. “Voltage facilitates the Bitcoin payments, and we settle the balance in U.S. dollars at the end of the month, just like a standard vendor invoice. It has made offering Bitcoin payments remarkably simple for both our team and our finance operations.”
Lightning Network Settlement
Voltage, a Bitcoin infrastructure company, handles the payment rails. The Lightning Network is a secondary layer that reduces transaction costs and increases speed for Bitcoin transfers. Vida Global treats monthly Bitcoin payments to Voltage as a standard vendor invoice, maintaining dollar-denominated accounting throughout the process.
Graham Krizek, CEO of Voltage, framed the arrangement as a practical solution for corporate payroll. “Their team members get paid in seconds in the money they actually want, and their finance team never touches crypto,” Krizek said. “When a public company runs part of its team compensation on Bitcoin rails and the books stay boring, that’s the point.”
Corporate Adoption Model
The arrangement separates the employee experience from accounting complexity. Employees receive Bitcoin denominated in their preferred currency at near-instant settlement speeds. Vida Global’s finance operations continue to operate in U.S. dollars, avoiding cryptocurrency exposure on the balance sheet while offering compensation flexibility to staff in jurisdictions where local currencies present challenges.
Lightning Network infrastructure has seen prior integration in consumer applications. Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s co-founder, previously integrated Lightning into Cash App and Square point-of-sale terminals, establishing a precedent for the network’s use in payment systems.
