First newly public company to launch issuer-sponsored tokens on debut day

Securitize began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker SECZ on Thursday, July 3, simultaneously launching tokenized versions of its shares on Solana and Avalanche blockchains. The move marks the first time a newly public company has issued tokenized versions of its own stock on its market debut.

Securitize shares opened at $13.70 and closed at $12.30, a gain of 4.4% on the day. After-hours trading saw an additional 2.4% gain, bringing the price to $12.60. The company raised $400 million in its public offering and now carries a $1 billion valuation.

Carlos Domingo, Securitize co-founder and CEO, emphasized the significance of the dual listing. “We have long said that public equities are moving on-chain, and there is no stronger validation of that belief than tokenizing our own public stock on Day 1,” Domingo said. He added that the tokenized shares represent genuine issuer-sponsored securities, not synthetic wrappers. “SECZ is not a synthetic token or offshore wrapper. It is issuer-sponsored tokenization of the same common stock trading on the NYSE, made available through regulated infrastructure. This is how tokenization should scale: with real ownership, regulatory clarity and the issuer at the center.”

Securitize is backed by BlackRock and Morgan Stanley. The company went public through a merger with a Cantor Fitzgerald-backed SPAC.

Access to the tokenized shares will be subject to onboarding, eligibility checks, and customer identification and anti-money-laundering compliance. The SEC clarified in January that issuer-sponsored tokenized securities remain subject to U.S. securities laws. In mid-May, the SEC was reportedly preparing to announce an exemption for trading of tokenized stocks, but delayed the plan after stock exchange officials raised implementation concerns.

The tokenized real-world assets market currently exceeds $43 billion. Tokenized money market funds comprise the majority of this market. Tokenized commodities represent $7 billion in value, while tokenized stocks account for $1.6 billion. Citigroup has predicted the broader tokenization market could reach $5.5 trillion to $8.2 trillion by 2030.

Securitize partnered with NYSE in March to create tokenized assets for the exchange’s tokenized securities platform. Tokenized stocks are gaining institutional attention for potential deeper liquidity and extended trading hours. Securitize has established a lead in the tokenization space among institutional players.
