Ripple has released version 1.1 of its XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit, adding support for the Machine Payments Protocol and Open Wallet Standard to enable AI agents to pay for services using XRP and RLUSD.

The expansion gives developers a way to integrate a payments standard created by Stripe and Tempo into their AI applications. Machine Payments Protocol allows AI agents to pay for data, computing, and other online services as they work: a service responds with a price, the agent authorizes payment, and the service delivers the resource.

Jazzi Cooper, RippleX head of product, said: “Our job is to make XRP and RLUSD first-class options wherever developers are building.” RippleX is Ripple’s developer-focused division.

How the toolkit works

The new version 1.1 adds two core features. Machine Payments Protocol enables the agent-to-service payment flow. Open Wallet Standard lets software manage wallets across multiple blockchains through a common interface, reducing friction for developers integrating multiple chains.

XRP payment channels support one-time payments and ongoing payment sessions. The session feature currently requires XRP. Adding stablecoins like RLUSD to channels depends on a proposed ledger upgrade that has not yet been detailed.

RLUSD is Ripple’s dollar-pegged stablecoin. The payment software remains in beta.

Earlier XRP Ledger updates

This expansion follows Ripple’s addition of support for the x402 web payments standard to the XRP Ledger in June 2026. That standard allows developers to monetize APIs and services by attaching payment requests to HTTP responses.

Together, the updates position the XRP Ledger as infrastructure for autonomous agents that need to transact without human intermediaries. Developers can now choose between multiple payment standards depending on their use case.
