MicroStrategy purchased 1,665 Bitcoin for $142.7 million last week, according to an 8-K filing with the SEC on September 28, lifting the company’s total holdings to 847,666 BTC.
The company funded the acquisition by selling 1.47 million MSTR shares, which generated $246.2 million in net proceeds. Michael Saylor’s firm bought the Bitcoin at an average price of $85,681 per coin during the week prior to the filing.
The purchase marks the latest addition to MicroStrategy’s expanding Bitcoin treasury. The company has now spent $63.95 billion accumulating its current holdings at an average cost of $75,437 per coin, including fees and expenses.
Capital Structure and Cash Reserves
MicroStrategy maintained separate USD cash holdings during the transaction. The company holds $1 billion in current USD cash and a designated US dollar reserve of $5.02 billion allocated for preferred stock dividends and debt interest.
In the prior week, MicroStrategy purchased an additional 950 Bitcoin for $75.7 million, resuming acquisitions after a two-week pause. The company also spent $151.7 million to repurchase 1.53 million STRC preferred shares, using $48.1 million in USD cash alongside $103.5 million allocated to the repurchases.
MicroStrategy paid $22.1 million in dividend payments during the period. The company’s decision to fund Bitcoin purchases through share sales rather than drawing down cash reserves preserves liquidity for operational and debt-service obligations.
