Metaplanet, a Japanese corporate Bitcoin holder, moved 3,881 BTC across multiple self-controlled wallet addresses over three hours this week, according to blockchain data reviewed by Arkham. The transfer, valued at approximately $247 million at the time, did not involve any exchange deposit or sale.
The movement represents an internal custody reorganization. Metaplanet transferred the Bitcoin from cold wallets to new addresses under its own control, a pattern that does not increase tradable supply or signal a liquidation event. Analysts interpreted the activity as wallet reshuffling consistent with treasury management practices.
Metaplanet performed a similar transaction in March, moving nearly 5,000 BTC across addresses it controls in a sequence that began with smaller test transactions followed by larger transfers. That earlier move also remained within the company’s custody infrastructure.
The company holds 43,000 BTC as of the report, with an average purchase price of $96,000 per coin. At Bitcoin’s price of $63,600 at the time of the transfer, Metaplanet’s holdings carry an unrealized loss of $1.4 billion, or 34 percent. The company has stated a target acquisition of 210,000 BTC and has been among the most aggressive corporate Bitcoin buyers since April 2024.
