Kraken has integrated its trading platform with X’s Cashtag partner program, allowing users to tap cryptocurrency tickers on the social media platform and be directed to Kraken’s exchange to trade. The integration launched on September 16, marking Kraken’s entry into X’s US Cashtag ecosystem.
X’s Cashtag links display posts and price charts directly on the platform. When users select a trading link, they are directed to Kraken’s app or website, where they sign in, register, and complete purchases. The integration compresses a historically multi-step discovery process: users previously heard about crypto assets on social media, read discussion threads, searched prices elsewhere, compared exchanges, opened accounts, and funded them separately.
eToro, a social investment platform, previously connected Twitter Cashtags to its platform in 2023. That integration logged 420 million Cashtag searches in the first three months of the year, demonstrating user demand for direct pathways from social discovery to trading execution.
How X’s Cashtag System Works
X’s recommendation system uses signals such as likes, reposts, replies, and connections to surface content in the For You feed. Cashtag links appear alongside posts discussing specific cryptocurrencies, enabling users to access price data and trading interfaces without leaving the platform.
Behavioral Signals From Regulatory Research
A 2024 Financial Conduct Authority experiment involving more than 9,000 consumers found that app-design features significantly affected trading behavior. Push notifications increased trading by 11%, while points and prize draws increased trading by 12%. These findings underscore how interface design and behavioral incentives shape user engagement with trading platforms.
Kraken did not disclose user adoption numbers, engagement metrics, or whether the company receives referral fees or revenue from the Cashtag integration. The company also did not specify regulatory considerations or compliance frameworks governing the partnership with X.
