First prediction market to distribute live order book data on sports and crypto perpetuals
Kalshi announced Wednesday the launch of real-time access to its sports and crypto perpetuals order book through DoubleZero Edge’s dedicated fiber network, marking the first time a prediction market has distributed machine-readable data on event contracts to institutional subscribers.
The data feed provides users with live order book information instead of requiring them to build custom infrastructure from API responses. Austin Federa, co-founder of DoubleZero, said the move addresses a structural gap in emerging markets. “Data access is a critical part of market structure, but related infrastructure has been missing from new financial paradigms such as crypto, perpetuals and prediction markets,” Federa said.
Market composition and trading activity
Sports event contracts rank as Kalshi’s second-largest trading category, accounting for 37.8% of weekly notional volume. Crypto perpetuals occupy third place with 20.3% of weekly volume. Exotics contracts lead at 39.4% of weekly notional trading volume on the platform.
Regulatory backdrop
The data infrastructure launch arrives amid ongoing jurisdictional disputes over Kalshi’s core products. State regulators and the CFTC are locked in competing legal claims over whether sports event contracts fall under state gambling law or federal derivatives authority.
A Michigan judge temporarily blocked Kalshi from allowing residents to place bets on sporting events in June. Nevada issued a temporary ban on Kalshi in March. Kentucky sued five prediction market platforms, including Kalshi and Polymarket, accusing them of operating unlicensed sports betting platforms. The CFTC has filed separate litigation against states, arguing that federally regulated event contracts fall under its exclusive jurisdiction.
Integration with AI platforms
In early July, OpenAI began displaying Kalshi prediction market odds for FIFA World Cup matches in ChatGPT search results, expanding the platform’s visibility to mainstream users.
