BlackRock’s digital asset funds rebounded sharply in the third quarter, growing from $48.8 billion to $79.6 billion as $7.9 billion in fresh investor inflows combined with $22.9 billion in market gains. The surge marks a dramatic reversal after the first half of 2026, when the asset manager shed $2.2 billion from its crypto products amid market pressure.

The $30.8 billion quarterly increase in digital assets under management reflects both renewed investor appetite and recovery in underlying crypto prices. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), the spot bitcoin ETF product operated by the asset manager, benefited from the broader market rebound in Q3 2026.

Yet the recovery remains incomplete. Despite the 63% surge, BlackRock’s digital asset holdings sit 23% below year-ago levels, when the firm managed $104 billion in crypto assets one year prior. Over the past 12 months, BlackRock has attracted $6.3 billion in net new money to its digital asset products while absorbing $30.6 billion in market value declines.

The figures underscore BlackRock’s exposure to crypto price volatility. The firm’s digital asset business generated $39 million in quarterly fees and securities lending revenue from these products, a stream heavily dependent on the value of holdings and trading volume within its funds.

BlackRock disclosed the figures in its third-quarter earnings report released October 14, 2026. The company did not provide separate asset or flow figures for IBIT specifically, nor did it detail which specific cryptocurrencies beyond bitcoin comprise the $79.6 billion AUM.
