Binance published a proof-completion update on November 2 confirming that Bitcoin and nine other named tokens held a minimum 1:1 backing ratio as of an October 31 snapshot, according to reporting by CryptoSlate.

The disclosure follows Binance’s earlier recovery update, in which the exchange revealed that futures insurance reserves had been reallocated to replenish assets from an unspecified security incident. Binance stated it released only surplus above required coverage levels and that remaining funds exceeded that requirement.

Reserve Structure and Insurance Funds

Binance distinguishes Futures Insurance Funds from user assets. These funds operate as exchange reserves outside the user-verifiable Proof of Reserves view and support handling of bankrupt futures positions. When Futures Insurance Funds are available, the exchange reduces the need to close opposing traders’ positions. Binance monitors these funds against stress scenarios and adds company funds when required.

The exchange uses Maximum Takeover Capacity as a cap on the notional value of bankrupt positions a fund can absorb at one time. This capacity is expressed as a multiple of fund balance, with a predetermined multiplier that Binance kept confidential.

Auto-Deleveraging Mechanics

Binance’s Auto-Deleveraging (ADL) system can engage when Maximum Takeover Capacity is reached or when unrealized losses on assumed positions exceed available balance. ADL applies contract by contract, meaning positions in one contract type do not cover losses in another.

A hypothetical scenario illustrates how ADL can reduce profitable positions. A trader holding 1 BTC in spot assets with a 1 BTC linear futures short would face a $5,000 incremental loss on the remaining combined position if Bitcoin declined $10,000 per unit and ADL reduced the futures short to 0.5 BTC. The spot holding remains backed, but the futures position was reduced despite the underlying collateral.

Delta Neutral Account Status

Binance offers Delta Neutral Account qualification to traders meeting specific criteria: Portfolio Margin or Portfolio Margin Pro status, VIP4 tier or above, Delta Mode enabled, and a gap between long and short exposures less than 5% of the larger side. Qualifying positions receive lower ADL priority within the same profit-or-loss category but are not exempt from ADL entirely.

CryptoSlate’s analysis, authored by Liam “Akiba” Wright, noted that the reserve backing verification does not establish ADL probability or frequency. The publication also clarified that Delta Neutral Account status provides lower queue priority rather than immunity from deleveraging.

Market Context

The reserve disclosure came as Binance tracked $2.5 billion in wallet outflows after withdrawals reopened, alongside broader Bitcoin ETF outflows of $643 million during the same period.
