Aave’s Base Equities Hub accepted seven Coinbase stock tokens as collateral for USDC loans on September 25, 2024, after a temporary operational halt was lifted. The market remains open for borrowing and liquidation while Chainlink price feeds hold Friday’s closing value until Sunday evening, creating a window where positions can be liquidated without updated pricing.

The Equities Hub operates as a separate lending market within Aave V4. Borrowers can draw USDC against holdings of AAPLc, AMZNc, GOOGLc, METAc, MSFTc, NVDAc, and TSLAc, the seven Mag-7 stock tokens issued by Coinbase. The market caps USDC borrowing at $21 million and USDC supply at $32 million for the Mag-7 spoke. Collateral factors range from 65% to 79% across the seven tokens.

The pricing gap arises from Chainlink’s operating schedule. Equity-linked feeds run from Sunday 8 p.m. to Friday 8 p.m. Eastern time, meaning they remain frozen from Friday evening through Sunday evening. During this window, interest accrual can push positions across the liquidation threshold without price updates to reflect actual market conditions.

LlamaRisk, the protocol’s risk assessment provider, modeled liquidation dynamics under this constraint. The stress model incorporates historical off-hours stock moves and assumes liquidation completion within five minutes of regular stock-market open. LlamaRisk assumes a 0.5% gap between published oracle value and actual market price. Base secondary-market depth for the seven tokens ranges from $0.27 million to $1.08 million per token at 2% price impact, according to liquidity data collected on September 17, 2024.

Liquidators who seize stock tokens face an additional friction. Seized tokens without vesting status cannot be automatically redeemed through Coinbase and must be sold on secondary markets or hedged separately. The maximum liquidation bonus is configured at 5.5%.

USDC borrowing rates on the Equities Hub reach 24% annually at the top of the curve. Separately, $76 million in USDC sits in Aave V4 Arc, a parallel market, without being borrowed.

The Equities Hub operates independently from Aave’s core lending markets. USDC suppliers must explicitly opt in to exposure to stock-token collateral. The Protocol Security Council unhalted the market directly without an Aave Improvement Proposal or standard Governance V3 vote, according to Aave Labs.

Market Structure

Chainlink feeds combine the underlying share price with a Coinbase issuer multiplier. The market remains open for deposits, borrowing, and liquidation continuously, even during the Friday-to-Sunday feed freeze. Interest accrual during this window can move borrowers closer to or across the liquidation threshold before prices update on Sunday evening.

Aave did not disclose current deposit amounts, borrowing levels, or utilization rates in the Equities Hub as of the market’s reopening.
