Aave governance is reviewing a proposal to add Ethena’s USDe stablecoin as collateral to Aave V4’s core instance on Avalanche, according to reporting by Bitcoinist. The proposal has passed risk review and entered Aave’s formal governance pipeline via direct-to-AIP path, moving toward a vote among token holders.

USDe, a synthetic stablecoin, uses LayerZero’s OFT (Omnichain Fungible Token) architecture with Ethereum-based escrow backing. The stablecoin operates across a mesh deployment spanning 31 networks and uses a 24-hour timelock for its bridge mechanism.

Governance Process and Risk Evaluation

The proposal’s advancement to formal governance signals that Aave’s risk process has cleared initial hurdles, but approval does not guarantee deployment. Stablecoin bridge and issuance structures create risks separate from price stability that Aave’s risk framework evaluates as part of collateral onboarding.

Large DeFi protocols are competing on breadth of collateral and stablecoin liquidity support. Adding USDe to Aave V4 on Avalanche would expand the protocol’s stablecoin options on the network, though USDe is not yet live on that instance.

Next Steps

The governance process will determine whether USDe becomes available as collateral for Aave users on Avalanche. The proposal’s path through direct-to-AIP governance indicates it has met preliminary technical and risk thresholds required for community review.
