Mags challenges narrative that famous BTC pattern has ended
Crypto analyst Mags is pushing back against claims that Bitcoin’s famous four-year cycle has run its course. On May 23, Mags posted analysis on X questioning whether the pattern—which has shaped BTC’s market trajectory across multiple bull and bear phases—remains operative in today’s market.
The four-year cycle theory describes Bitcoin’s movement in four yearly stages: Buy (prices declining), Hold (prices rising), Sell (prices near peak, investors sell), and Bear market (crash and sharp price decline). The pattern held across three major cycles: 2011–2014 (decline, rise to peak, selling phase, crash), 2015–2018 (same structure), and 2019–2022 (same structure).
Some prominent voices, including Michael Saylor, Strategy CEO, have declared the four-year cycle dead. But Mags argues the cycle “is still on track and everything is playing out perfectly” in the current market.
According to Mags’ analysis, Bitcoin moved through the Buy stage in 2023, Hold in 2024, and entered the Sell phase in 2025. If the pattern holds, a bear market crash would follow, setting up the next accumulation window in 2027. Mags predicts the 2027–2030 cycle could follow the same four-stage trend.
The debate hinges on structural changes in Bitcoin’s market. Other crypto community members attribute differences in the current cycle to Spot ETFs, increased institutional flows, and broader adoption—factors absent or minimal in earlier cycles. These dynamics could theoretically flatten volatility or accelerate price moves, potentially disrupting the historical pattern.
Mags’ position reflects a split in the analyst community. While skeptics like Saylor contend the cycle has lost its predictive power, Mags and others maintain the pattern persists beneath surface-level noise. The disagreement underscores a broader question: whether Bitcoin’s market structure has fundamentally shifted, or whether the four-year rhythm remains the dominant force shaping price discovery.
The theory carries weight among traders and long-term holders. If Mags is correct, the next major buying opportunity would arrive in 2027. If the cycle has truly ended, Bitcoin’s price action may follow entirely different rules—a scenario that would require investors to abandon decades of pattern-based analysis.
