Bitcoin confronts potential selling pressure near $82,500, where Bitfinex estimates investors accumulated approximately 874,000 BTC between $81,000 and $82,500, according to analysis published October 26.
The resistance level emerges as the largest cryptocurrency recovered from a 9.3% decline that brought it to $79,250 on October 24. Bitcoin closed below the $81,300 support level October 22 through 24, breaking a barrier that had held for several weeks. The coin recovered to $80,102 after hitting a 24-hour low of $79,370 but failed to sustain a rally toward $84,930.
Bitfinex’s 874,000 BTC figure reflects coins associated with that price range rather than confirmed sell orders. The exchange also identified a liquidation concentration between $82,300 and $83,000 that could trigger a short squeeze if buying pressure pushes through resistance. A deeper decline would bring $77,765 into focus, the Bitcoin True Market Mean representing the on-chain average acquisition price of economically active supply.
Futures and ETF Dynamics
Bitcoin futures open interest expanded despite downward price pressure. Open interest rose from 645,411 BTC on October 21 to 669,253 BTC on October 25, indicating that traders added positions during the sell-off.
Spot Bitcoin ETF demand remained uneven. BlackRock’s IBIT recorded net inflows of $110.3 million on October 26, accounting for all inflows that day while other funds posted zero net flows. The same period followed two-session ETF withdrawals of $773.5 million and three-session net outflows of $663 million.
Federal Reserve Decision and Economic Data
The Federal Reserve is scheduled to announce its policy decision on October 28. Futures markets assigned a 9.4% implied probability to a rate increase in October as of October 25, down from earlier expectations. December rate increase probability stood at 72.1% on the same date.
Additional economic data will arrive October 29, when the US Bureau of Economic Analysis publishes the advance Q3 GDP estimate, September personal income and outlays figures, and the PCE inflation measure. These releases could influence both monetary policy expectations and risk appetite in cryptocurrency markets.
