Strategy, the Nasdaq-listed bitcoin treasury company formerly known as MicroStrategy, purchased 250 bitcoins for $21.5 million between October 5 and 11, marking a return to regular weekly accumulation after months of sporadic or halted purchases.

The bitcoin acquisition, disclosed Monday in a filing, coincided with a $192.4 million repurchase of the company’s STRC preferred stock. Strategy CEO Michael Saylor announced the moves in a statement: “Strategy has acquired 250 $BTC and repurchased $192M of $STRC. As of 10/11/26, we hold 848,250 BTC and $5.5B of USD Assets.”

The purchases bring Strategy’s total bitcoin holdings to 848,250 BTC, valued at approximately $70.2 billion at current prices. The company’s Nasdaq-listed stock, MSTR, rose 2% on Monday following the announcement, though the shares have declined more than 50% over the past year.

Treasury Strategy and Capital Allocation

Strategy’s pivot back to weekly bitcoin accumulation reverses a period in which the company either made sporadic purchases or paused acquisitions entirely to build cash reserves. The company maintains two separate cash reserves: a “USD Reserve” designated for dividends and debt interest, and “USD Cash” allocated specifically for bitcoin purchases.

Strategy first purchased bitcoin in August 2020 to protect shareholders from inflation. Since that initial acquisition, the company has transformed into a dedicated bitcoin treasury operation. The firm now offers yield-bearing products through four preferred share classes: STRF, STRC, STRK, and STRD.

MSTR has appreciated nearly 1,000% since the company began its bitcoin accumulation program in August 2020, though recent market conditions have eroded those gains significantly.

Bitcoin Magazine’s Mathew Di Salvo reported the acquisition details on October 12, 2026.
