Current cryptocurrency investors are planning to increase their holdings over the next 12 months at rates that outpace investors in stocks, bonds, ETFs, and mutual funds, according to Charles Schwab’s 2026 Modern Wealth Survey released today.

Six in 10 existing crypto investors said they plan to invest more in the asset class over the next year, compared to 56% of ETF investors, 52% of stock investors, 42% of bond investors, and 41% of mutual fund investors, the survey found. The poll was conducted by Logica Research between August 24 and September 17, 2026, with a national sample of 2,000 participants aged 21 to 75.

“Existing cryptocurrency investors are certainly leaning in, particularly younger investors who are driving much of the interest and momentum in cryptocurrency,” said Joe Vietri, Head of Digital Assets at Charles Schwab. “But to me, the bigger story is that cryptocurrency is increasingly viewed as a complement to traditional investments.”

The survey reflects broader adoption trends among U.S. investors. One in five Americans currently owns cryptocurrency, while another one in five do not own crypto but expressed interest in buying. Nearly half of all investors surveyed hold cryptocurrency in some form.

Millennials are the most likely demographic to own cryptocurrency, with millennials four times more likely to hold the asset class than Boomers. Schwab noted that younger investors are driving much of the current interest in the space.

Charles Schwab, the country’s largest custodian for registered investment advisors, has been expanding its cryptocurrency offerings to retail clients. Earlier in 2026, the firm began a phased rollout of Schwab Crypto, which provides direct bitcoin trading access, educational content, and professional support. Schwab also offers crypto-linked ETFs, bitcoin futures, and the Schwab Crypto Thematic Index ETF. The company holds 20% of all crypto exchange-traded products across the industry.
