Altcoins surged across the board Friday as Bitcoin consolidated near $84,000, with 93 of the CoinDesk 100 constituents posting gains over the past 24 hours. The altcoin season index climbed to 56, its highest reading in more than three months, up from 45 a week ago and 38 a month ago.
Bitcoin reached almost $87,000 on Tuesday before trading sideways. The cryptocurrency settled at $84,342 on Friday, unchanged since midnight UTC. The consolidation follows a climb from below $63,000 in August.
Capital rotation into altcoins reflects a pattern seen in previous market cycles when Bitcoin stalls after a strong run. Elevated funding costs for long positions are pushing traders toward more speculative bets across smaller-cap tokens.
