BitMine Immersion Technologies has amassed 5.07 million staked ETH, equivalent to 11.8% of Ethereum’s active stake, but has not disclosed how validators or signing keys are distributed among its operators, according to an operational update issued September 8.
The staked position is valued at $12.6 billion. BitMine holds 5.93 million ETH in total, with 85% staked across its MAVAN institutional staking platform and undisclosed outside operators. Ethereum’s active stake stands at 43.03 million ETH.
The concentration raises questions about validator control transparency. Ethereum’s proof-of-stake system assigns consensus influence through validators whose signing keys authorize block proposals and attestations. Ownership of ETH does not by itself disclose who can exercise validator duties. BitMine’s position remains below the one-third threshold at which an operator could prevent finality, but Ethereum’s security model becomes increasingly sensitive as signing authority concentrates.
Operational Restructuring
BitMine ended its management-services agreement with Ethereum Tower on September 3 and appointed American Validator to advise MAVAN Holdings the following day. American Validator will receive 1.5% of rewards from company-staked ETH. The agreement does not identify American Validator as operator of the entire validator fleet or assign signing authority.
BitMine’s September 8 update disclosed only that “a portion” of its ETH was staked through MAVAN, with remaining amounts split between BitMine infrastructure and outside operators without further specification. The company stated that “MAVAN and its staking partners” plan future staking activity but did not name the staking partners or detail how validator responsibilities are divided.
Disclosure Gaps
BitMine does not specify the split between ETH staked through MAVAN versus through staking partners, nor does it identify how validator cohorts are distributed among providers. Signing-key custody arrangements and infrastructure distribution across software clients and hosting environments remain undisclosed.
MAVAN has grown to serve institutional investors, custodians, and ecosystem partners. BitMine describes itself as principal node operator while also outlining reliance on outside infrastructure. The latest disclosures add further participants without showing how validator responsibilities are divided.
BitMine’s staking position targets 5% ownership of Ethereum’s total supply. Two-thirds of attestations are required to finalize checkpoints on Ethereum’s network.
