T. Rowe Price, the $1.9 trillion asset manager, has brought what it said is the industry’s first actively managed multi-token spot crypto exchange-traded fund to the market. The fund, ticker TKNZ, began trading on July 17, 2026, and holds a diversified basket of cryptocurrencies including bitcoin, ether, BNB, XRP, solana, and Hyperliquid.

Unlike passive index-tracking crypto ETFs, TKNZ allows portfolio managers to adjust allocations based on market conditions, research, and risk assessments. Blue Macellari, T. Rowe Price’s head of digital assets since 2022, manages the fund alongside four co-portfolio managers. The active strategy is designed to capture changes in market leadership and momentum as capital rotates among cryptocurrencies.

Fee Structure and Launch Details

T. Rowe Price is charging a net management fee of 0.75 percent through May 2027 under a temporary waiver. After that period, the fee is scheduled to rise to 0.90 percent. The firm built its own digital asset trading infrastructure and partnered with institutional service providers before the launch.

The entry into actively managed crypto ETFs marks a significant move by a traditional asset manager into the digital asset space. BlackRock, another major asset manager, launched a bitcoin income ETF earlier in July 2026 designed to generate yield through options strategies, signaling continued institutional appetite for crypto-linked products.

Active Management in Crypto Markets

Actively managed crypto funds typically carry higher fees than passive alternatives and must consistently outperform index-tracking products to justify their costs to investors. T. Rowe Price’s multi-token approach differs from single-asset ETFs by giving managers discretion to shift between different cryptocurrencies based on their assessment of market dynamics.

The fund’s diversified holdings across major cryptocurrencies and emerging tokens reflect the firm’s view that market leadership in digital assets continues to evolve. T. Rowe Price’s decision to build proprietary trading infrastructure underscores the operational complexity required to manage actively allocated crypto positions at institutional scale.
