Spark Protocol Validates Transactions at Broadcast, Cutting Confirmation Wait from 10-60 Minutes
Polymarket has begun supporting instant Bitcoin deposits over the Lightning Network, using Spark protocol infrastructure to validate transactions at broadcast and credit deposits in under one second.
The shift marks a significant acceleration from the platform’s standard on-chain deposit method, which Polymarket activated in October 2025. On-chain Bitcoin deposits previously required three to six confirmations, a process that typically took 10 to 60 minutes before funds appeared in user accounts.
Spark validates Bitcoin transactions by checking for double-spend risk, fee adequacy, and replace-by-fee flags at the moment of broadcast. The protocol keeps deposits self-custodial, with each wallet tied to the user’s own private keys. “Deposit BTC to the platform with more speed and more privacy than the older method offered,” Spark stated via X post on July 7, 2026.
Polymarket does not manage confirmation thresholds or operate its own Lightning nodes. Instead, a single Spark SDK handles on-chain, Lightning, and stablecoin rails across the platform. This architecture allows Polymarket to support multiple deposit pathways without fragmenting infrastructure.
The prediction market platform, founded in 2020, gained widespread attention during the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Polymarket has since expanded its feature set, integrating Chainlink oracles and adding earnings markets. The platform competes in a regulated prediction market space that includes rivals like Kalshi.
Spark infrastructure is being adopted by multiple wallet providers. Breez, Xverse, and Cake are all building on Spark rails to support the protocol’s payment and stablecoin functionality. Paolo Ardoino, Tether chief, has backed the broader Spark ecosystem.
On-chain Bitcoin deposits to Polymarket carried a higher minimum deposit reflecting bridging costs. The Lightning deposit feature addresses both speed and cost friction, though Polymarket has not disclosed the fee structure for Lightning deposits versus on-chain deposits or specified whether the feature is available to all users globally.
Why This Matters
Instant settlement removes a key friction point for traders entering prediction markets. A one-second deposit window versus a 10-to-60-minute wait substantially changes the user experience for intraday trading and time-sensitive event markets. The self-custodial design also preserves privacy and reduces counterparty risk relative to custodial deposit methods.
