Critical Fibonacci level faces renewed pressure as asset struggles to stabilize
Bitcoin is testing a critical support zone between $58,000 and $60,000 for the third time, according to analysis from Katie Stockton, founder and managing partner of Fairlead Strategies. The asset has shed more than 50% of its value since hitting an all-time high near $126,000, placing it in a clear downtrend and raising questions about whether the support level will hold.
A break below $58,000–$60,000 could trigger a deeper decline toward the low $40,000s, the next meaningful support threshold. Stockton emphasized the importance of stabilization at the current zone. “We’re looking for stabilization. Ideally it does happen in this range because it is a key Fibonacci retracement level, below which a full retracement often happens,” she said.
Bitcoin’s recent price action reflects a failed attempt to break higher. The asset hit its 200-day moving average, which served as resistance and triggered a roughly 30% decline from that level. The $60,000 level represents both a psychological marker and a contested battleground across multiple test cycles, making it a focal point for traders monitoring the bear market.
Stockton remains cautious about the near-term outlook. She said Bitcoin could still experience drawdowns of 75 to 80% from current levels, though she framed this volatility as opportunity for technicians. “I think we can still see those 75 to 80% drawdowns, but as a technician, I almost see the volatility as opportunity,” Stockton said.
Some Bitcoin bulls argue the current cycle differs structurally from earlier bear markets due to spot Bitcoin ETFs, institutional adoption, and mainstream acceptance, which they contend may cap drawdown depth. Stockton is skeptical of this thesis, as well as of frameworks built around the halving cycle, citing a small sample size for such claims.
Bitcoin has been in a long-term oversold condition for a duration that historically tends to precede momentum shifts. Stockton indicated she would want to see two to three weeks of price stabilization before gaining conviction in a recovery. The technical picture remains contested, with the $58,000–$60,000 zone serving as the immediate battleground for bulls and bears.
