Tom Lee’s Ethereum Treasury Company Approaches 5% Strategic Target

Bitmine, the Ethereum treasury company founded by Tom Lee, has announced purchases totaling $213.57 million in Ethereum, bringing its total holdings to 4.59% of the circulating ETH supply, according to on-chain analysis by Arkham Intelligence.

The accumulation represents one of the largest single-entity Ethereum holdings ever documented on-chain. At current Ethereum prices of $1,700, Bitmine’s position is valued at $9.32 billion. The company would need an additional $819.86 million in purchases at current prices to reach its declared 5% supply threshold.

Bitmine is executing against a stated strategic objective rather than buying opportunistically based on daily price movements. Tom Lee, described as a prominent investor whose bullish macro calls have made him closely watched in traditional finance’s engagement with crypto, leads the effort. His institutional credibility has positioned Bitmine’s accumulation strategy as a signal of conviction in Ethereum’s long-term value.

The timing of Bitmine’s purchases coincides with significant weakness in Ethereum’s price structure. ETH has collapsed below the $1,800 to $1,900 support zone that contained price throughout much of 2026. The asset has fallen below its 50-week, 100-week, and 200-week moving averages, with the 200-week average sitting at $2,450. Volume expanded sharply during the recent decline, suggesting aggressive distribution rather than ordinary profit-taking.

Ethereum peaked at $4,800 in 2025 before entering a sustained drawdown. A failed recovery attempt produced a lower high of $2,350 in March. The recent sell-off pushed ETH to lows near $1,500, with bulls currently attempting to stabilize the asset in the $1,500 to $1,600 region.

The significance of Bitmine’s position extends beyond the dollar value of its holdings. ETH committed to Bitmine’s treasury strategy is not available for immediate sale on the open market, reducing available float and potentially affecting price dynamics during periods of selling pressure. As Bitmine approaches its 5% target, the company’s continued accumulation could further concentrate Ethereum supply among institutional holders.

The purchase announcement does not specify the exact timing of the $213.57 million transaction or whether Bitmine has made public statements about its accumulation strategy beyond the on-chain evidence tracked by Arkham Intelligence.
